Bus Canvassing

September 8, 2010

Today we were able to travel around W2-P4 Fridley meeting citizens of the district. As expected, in a heavily Democratic voting area I had several folks not interested. But the overall support in conversations with people was 10 to 1 tonight. In 08 elections I received 270 votes to Carolyn's 385, a 115 vote difference in a precinct we did not even campaign in during 2008 due to lack of time.

We came across a couple ladies walking a dog.  As I exited the bus and approached them, one woman said, "Hello Mr. Utz and how are you doing tonight?" The women stopped and we conversed for a few minutes. The second woman said that her daughter met me the other day and told her all about me. She said that since her daughter is voting for me she has also decided to vote for me.

As I planted a yard sign tonight the second of two vehicles stopped. The woman asked if I was the Mr. Utz, to which I replied "yes" and handed her a business card. She asked for some literature about my campaign and I explained the business card she held is our literature. She asked about a website and I directed her to the website for all the information she would need. I suggested she get a pizza and something to drink, and then enjoy an hour reading through our website and campaign photo sections.

Next door to where I placed the above mentioned yard sign, the family had gathered at their picture window admiring our campaign bus as I talked to the woman in the vehicle. As I returned to our bus I noticed Mona talking to the father and three boys on the porch. I approached and greeted the father who was very supportive and interested in our campaign. The curious part about this family was the OBAMA 08 bumper sticker on the back of their mini van.

The experiences traveling the district are just overwhelming for this candidate as people want leadership willing to state positions and not apologize for them; someone who knows the direction America was designed to go and is willing to redirect her that way again.
