March 5, 2010 - Legislative Report #12
Gun Control and the Constitution
United States Constitution 2nd Amendment: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. HF 2960 introduced by seven legislators (Paymar, Hayden, Champion, Ruud, Davnie, Slocum, Mullery) attempts to regulate the private sale and transfer of firearms in Minnesota at gun shows. The proposed bill even extends to that of criminalizing a private conversation between multiple parties at a gun show in regard to the exchange of any firearm after the gun show without including a background check.
Our campaign attended several gun shows last year in an attempt to educate gun owners on the intentions of existing legislators to strip constitutionally protected firearm activity. Our campaign staff gave away over 2500 business cards at one major gun show where we had an information table last year. The overwhelming reply was, "I joined the NRA and they will protect my guns." To which I would reply, "The NRA does not vote at the Capitol. Elected leaders do; support my campaign." $131.00 was contributed
by the 2500 gun owners, while eating a $4 hotdog and $3 Coke and shopping for firearms.
Conclusion: Until we elect statesmen willing to uphold our Constitution, the light of American liberty will diminish and disappear. Gun control, especially the level represented in HF 2960, is in direct violation of our Constitution and personal contracts of commerce.
