HF 2960 3-10-10 Gun Show Bill Background Check

The room I visited is was full of folks, or more accurately defined as lobbyists, wanting to erode further the 2nd Amendment of our federal Constitution by pushing HF 2960* introduced by Representative Michael Paymar** (DFL), District 64B. Unable to get legislation passed through the legal means by changing the federal Constitution, lobby groups submit bills like HF 2960 in states across the country, using the means of illegal bill submission. The intent is to pass a bill, and then hoping that "We the People" continue our sleepwalking through life as your liberties are illegally stripped away, or that a sympathetic court will use case law to alter the 2nd Amendment.

HF 2960 would require ALL gun show vendors to conduct a background check on ANY private firearm transaction at a gun or trade show. Current federal law requires only firearms dealers to conduct background checks on sales at a gun or trade show. In addition, any private sale of a firearm between visitors at a gun or trade show would require the seller to conduct a background check on the buyer. HF 2960 even extends the background check requirement further by requiring a background check on the buyer, by the seller, even if two parties at a gun or trade show have a conversation about any firearms and then sometime after the show make a private transaction.

Punishment for any violation of bill #2960 is up to 1 year in jail and $3,000.00 fine.
